Background

Linking weather to your health is not a new idea. The International Society for Biometeorology was founded in 1956 to connect scientists interested in the subject. Dr. John Bart and Meteorologist Denis Bourque have been working in the field since 1986.  Below you will find a timeline that outlines the work and involvement that went into developing MediClim®.

1986-1989
Bart and Bourque form Canadian Medical Meteorological Network (CMMN); the first such North American association between a physician and a meteorologist. As part of the CMMN  they produce MedMetNews, the first magazine in North America devoted to the topic of biometeorology.

1992
Bart and Bourque present at an international conference on the link between weather and health hosted by Health Canada and Environment Canada.

1995
Bart and Bourque authors a platform article on the subject of weather and health published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

1998
Bart and Bourque present lecture at the Toronto Science Centre on biometeorology.

Bart and Bourque conduct research project funded by Physican Services Incorporated on "Preliminary investigation into the relationship between laboratory results in Ontario and weather patterns as represented by the MediClim Index." Presentation of findings as keynote scientific speakers at the P.S.I.Foundation's annual general meeting.

Formation of MedMetNewsInc. to source funding for the topic of biometeorology.

2007
Bart and Bourque complete research paper on the presentation of patients at E.R. at five hospitals across Ontario and weather parameters. Only the MediClim® Index showed a statistically significant association. Results published at CMOS meeting Sept 2007 (Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society meeting).

2008
Launch of MediClim.com - first subscriber-based email alert system in the world to offer weather-related health alerts.
